Accreditation
BANGOR — Eastern Maine Medical Center announced recently that its vascular laboratory was awarded a three-year accreditation from the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission.
“After months of rigorous preparations, standardizing protocols, streamlining diagnostic criteria and educating techs, we are extremely proud of this accomplishment,” said Dr. Ashley Robertson, lead physician, EMMC Vascular Care. “We are more prepared than ever to help EMMC’s patients detect possible problems early on and help prevent heart attacks and strokes.”
Accreditation by the IAC means that the vascular lab has undergone a thorough review of its operational and technical components by a panel of experts. The IAC grants accreditation only to those facilities that provide quality patient care, in compliance with national standards, through a comprehensive application process including detailed case study review.
EMMC’s lab is one of three hospitals in Maine to achieve accreditation in all four areas of vascular testing.
Honored
BANGOR — Maine Rep. Adam Goode was honored on Sept. 16 by the Maine Primary Care Association for his work on behalf of community health centers. Goode was recognized at a reception that took place in Augusta.
As House chairman of the Legislature’s Taxation Committee, Goode helped create a tax credit for medical professionals who take jobs in underserved areas of Maine.
There are numerous community health centers in the Bangor area, including Penobscot
Goode is serving his third term in the Legislature and represents part of Bangor.
Volunteer training
OLD TOWN — Beacon Hospice will hold a volunteer training session, 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 7, 14, 21, and Nov. 4, 11, 18 and 25, at Old Town High School through the Adult Education Program.
Common Volunteer activities often include reading, playing chess, cards, board games, knitting, scrapbooking, painting and other art projects, writing letters, and helping to create life reviews. Household tasks may include running errands, walking pets, grocery shopping, light meal preparation, light housekeeping. Volunteers also providing respite for caregivers, sitting silently when appropriate and providing spiritual support when requested.
Class registrations fee is $10.
