BANGOR — Free baseball clinic, Playing Catch with the Community, for ages 13 and under noon-3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Mansfield Stadium, put on by University of Maine, Husson University and Sluggers. Players will learn baseball techniques from the best instructors in Maine. There will be a wiffle ball game at the end of the day. ORONO — Registration is under way for the University of Maine Junior Winter Clinic, which will be held 4:30-6:30 p.m. 12 consecutive Saturdays; and Senior Winter Clinic, which will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. 12 consecutive Saturdays. Cost is $250 for 12 weeks of instruction with UMaine players and coaches.The goal of this clinic is to give each player a high level of individual instruction within a group setting. The Youth Aged Winter Tournament registration has opened up to fill six-eight available spots.The schedule has been modified to have a nine-week, 10-game schedule played on Sundays. BANGOR — Husson University will hold 15, one-day basketball clinics throughout the school year for boys and girls in grades three through eight. The clinics will focus on skill development such as ball handling, footwork, shooting, passing, along with other basic skills and concepts. FIELD HOCKEY
Majestix will be sending U10, U12, and U14 indoor teams to the National Indoor Tournament, and training U16 and U19 squads for the regional qualifier in hopes of reaching the national tournament. Tryouts will start on Monday, Oct. 6. There will be three tryout opportunities for each age group. Age group squads then will practice as a whole and black and white teams will be chosen in December. BREWER — Brewer Youth hockey is accepting registrations for its Learn to Skate/Learn to Play Hockey sessions. There will be two 12-week sessions. Participants can sign up for one session or both. CAMDEN — The first Forest Priestley Memorial 5K race at Camden Hills Regional High School will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, on Homecoming Weekend, in memory of the CHRHS student who died in June. A new scholarship fund in memory of Forest will be established through donations and proceeds from the race; and proceeds from the race entries will benefit a new trail development fund. ORONO — 35th Black Bear Triathlon, Oct. 5, at UMaine, 6:30 a.m. to noon, sponsored by UMaine Campus Recreation and sanctioned by USA Triathlon, held from 6:30 a.m. to noon. It will feature a 525-yard swim in UMaine’s Wallace Pool, and a 12.5-mile bike race and 3.1-mile run along the UMaine trails and local roadways. Open to athletes ages 16 and older; event features a relay component for teams of two or three athletes. Registration fee is $50; $40 for UMaine students; $75 for teams.
