BANGOR, Maine — Crews from Emera Maine are working to restore power to more than 1,000 customers in Penobscot and Washington counties Sunday morning.

“In the Old Town area, crews are on site fixing a problem causing a power outage to customers in Old Town, Stillwater and Alton,” Emera spokeswoman Susan Faloon said Sunday morning. “Meanwhile, a crew is on its way to investigate the cause of a power outage in Cherryfield. Once the problem has been located, crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore power.”

As of 9 a.m., more than 670 homes and businesses in the Old Town area and another 490 in the Cherryfield area were without electricity.

Emera said its still investigating the cause of the outages, but heavy rain fell throughout the night and into the morning hours in both areas, so weather may have been a factor.

Emera expects power to be restored to all customers by 11:30 a.m., but further outages could push back that estimate.
