WESTBROOK, Maine — A Portland man was arrested early Tuesday morning after police say he stole items from a car and then fled from officers by bike and on foot.
Jeffrey S. Sprague Jr., 21, was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, refusing to submit to arrest and violation of conditions of release, according to a release from Westbrook Police Capt. Michael Nugent.
Officers patrolling Lamb Street just before 2 a.m. Tuesday allegedly saw what appeared to be a car burglary in progress, according to Nugent.
The suspect, later identified as Sprague, allegedly fled on a bicycle. Police chased him down on foot and arrested him.
Property allegedly stolen in the burglary was recovered during the arrest, according to Nugent. Additional information was not immediately available.
At the time of his arrest, Sprague was on bail for a previous drug trafficking charge.
He remained at Cumberland County Jail on Tuesday, held on $300 bail.
