CARIBOU, Maine — A California man who was involved in an altercation that allegedly involved a handgun at the Downunder Sports Pub in Houlton over the Independence Day holiday was indicted on several charges by the Aroostook County grand jury on Thursday.

Aroostook County District Attorney Todd Collins, who released the list Friday, said the grand jury finished up its fifth session by indicting more than 30 people.

Once again, most of the infractions involved drug offenses, but there also were several alleged weapons violations on the list this session.

Max McGuire, 25, of Canyon Lake, California, was indicted on charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, assault, falsifying evidence and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

McGuire, who is originally from Linneus, Maine, was partying at the Downunder Sports Pub with his brother, Avery McGuire, 21, and a friend and causing a disturbance just before 11 p.m., according to the Houlton Police Department.

Police were called to the restaurant after Downunder security personnel removed all three men from the facility.

Once outside in the parking lot, Max McGuire retrieved a 9 mm handgun from his vehicle and pointed it at several individuals, according to police. The incident was captured on security cameras.

Houlton Police Sgt. Eric Crouse and Officers Ben Drew and Richard York responded to the scene.

The McGuires left the scene before police arrived and were located at their parents home in Linneus. A 9 mm handgun was recovered from a wooded area near the parents’ home, according to police. Avery McGuire also was charged in the incident, but was not indicted by the grand jury.
