BANGOR, Maine — Local business people and residents are pulling out the work gloves and ladders a little early this year in preparation for the holiday season, and the Downtown Bangor Partnership would like your help.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, the partnership — a group of business owners, workers and residents dedicated to promoting and improving the city’s downtown district — will be picking up trash and debris throughout downtown. Other volunteers will be hanging lights from trees in Norumbega Park along the Kenduskeag Stream and throughout other parts of downtown.
All ages are welcome to help, according to Caitlin Brooke, downtown coordinator for the city. Volunteers should meet in Norumbega Park at 9 a.m. to get organized. Snacks will be available for anyone who lends a hand, according to Brooke.
“Come all day or just for a few hours. Every minute of your time makes a difference,” she said.
Brooke said the city is expanding its winter lighting efforts this year to include trees along Main Street. Bangor Lowe’s Home Improvement provided lighting decorations at a discounted price, Brooke added.
If weather hinders plans, the cleanup will be held Sunday.
