CHAPMAN, Maine — A brush fire on Chapman Road burned a patch of field on Monday afternoon.

Capt. Vince Baldwin of the Presque Isle Fire Department said Monday evening that the department fought a brush fire at 2160 Chapman Road threatening an open field, as well as a barn and wood line.

Baldwin said that although 6.8 acres of open field burned, firefighters were able to save everything else.

The Fire Department received assistance from a Maine forest ranger and the Caribou Fire Department. Several civilians also assisted at the scene, according to Baldwin.

The fire reportedly was caused by improper disposal of lighted materials.

The owner, whose full name was not available, was issued a warning by the forest ranger.
