PERU, Maine — Maine State Police have charged a 33-year-old man in the death of his mother-in-law.
Paul Orchard of Peru is accused of killing Paula Nuttall, 57, who was found dead in her kitchen Saturday.
Police called the death “suspicious” when it first was reported Saturday. Orchard, Nuttall and two other family members lived in the home, police said.
Orchard was arrested Sunday night as he was discharged from Rumford Hospital, according to a release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
On Saturday, police said a man was taken from the scene of Nuttall’s death with injuries that were not life-threatening. McCausland said more information on Nuttall’s death and the reason Orchard was in the hospital will be released when Orchard first appears in court this week.
