BUXTON, Maine — Three men face charges including creating a police standoff and endangering the welfare of a child after allegedly holding officers at bay for several hours Saturday afternoon in Buxton.
Officers from the Buxton Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency attempted to execute a search warrant at about 3 p.m. Saturday at a home on Hurlin Smith Road.
They were looking for a stolen laptop and .22 caliber handgun, according to a release from Chief Deputy Naldo Gagnon of the sheriff’s office.
When none of the occupants would come to the door, and after police determined a young child was in the home, officers retreated while the sheriff’s emergency services unit and negotiators were called to assist.
After several hours, three men came out of the building with the child, and were detained while the house was searched. Police allegedly seized the laptop and several guns, according to the release.
Buxton police charged Dale Pinkham, 54, with violation of conditions of release, endangering the welfare of a child and creating a police standoff. Gagnon said the sheriff’s office will also charge him with burglary and theft. Dale Pinkham was released from the York County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.
Robert Pinkham, 19, was charged with possession of stolen firearms and will be charged by the sheriff’s office with burglary, theft and criminal mischief. He remained in York County Jail Tuesday morning, held on $5,000 bail.
Raymond Pinkham, 21, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and creating a police standoff. Charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief are pending from the sheriff’s office. He was released from the Buxton police station on $500 cash bail.
