ELLSWORTH, Maine — A Hancock woman has been charged as a result of a motor vehicle accident last month that disrupted traffic and electricity service to nearby residents.

Stacie J. Alley, 40, crashed her vehicle on Sept. 14, snapping a utility pole on North Street and demolishing the 2011 Jeep Liberty she was driving, police have said. At the time, officers indicated alcohol may have been a factor.

Last week, Alley was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants, the Ellsworth Police Department indicated in a prepared statement.

The accident resulted in North Street being closed down for several hours, according to police. North Street connects central Ellsworth with several northern Hancock County towns along Route 179. Nearby residents temporarily lost power because of the accident.

Alley was taken the night of the accident to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she was listed in serious condition, police said at the time. Ellsworth police Lt. Harold Page said Tuesday that she was released and returned home the next day.
