WALLAGRASS, Maine — A Fort Kent man suffered serious injuries Tuesday when his pickup truck left Route 11 and struck a tree, police said.

Rene Valcort, 49, was traveling north at the time of the accident, according to State Police Sgt. Chad Fuller.

Fuller said Valcort’s pickup drifted off the road and into a ditch. The truck struck a culvert head, went airborne, hit a tree, then hit and snapped a utility pole.

Valcort was extricated from the vehicle by Fort Kent fire and ambulance personnel and was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, the sergeant said.

The accident, which caused area residents to lose power for about two hours, remains under investigation.
