AUGUSTA, Maine — An accident at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Route 105, known locally as South Belfast Avenue, snarled traffic for much of Wednesday morning.

Augusta Deputy Police Chief Jared Mills said the accident, involving a tractor-trailer, occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m.

The driver of the truck, whose name was not available, was attempting to turn from Church Hill Road onto Route 105 when the trailer clipped a telephone pole, sending power lines spilling into the road, according to Mills.

The driver was not injured, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash, Mills said.

The road was shut down briefly while the power lines were removed, the deputy chief said.
