PRENTISS, Maine — A late night fire on Saturday sent eight firefighters from Kingman and a Maine state trooper to Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln for throat irritation, according to Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland.

All were treated and released, he said.

Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire at a camp on Tucker Ridge Road, McCausland said Sunday afternoon.

The call came in at about 10:30 p.m., and firefighters from Kingman, Lee, Springfield and Lincoln went to the blaze, according to Penobscot Regional Communications Center in Bangor.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency was called but was told it was not needed before they arrived, according to Sgt. Joel Davis of the state fire marshals office.

The MDEA was called because “the camp appeared to have all the making of a meth lab, but that turned out not to be the case,” McCausland said.

Firefighters saved the building, according to McCausland.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office, Davis said.
