BANGOR, Maine — Local police were treating a head-on collision Monday morning between a sport utility vehicle and a pickup truck on outer Union Street near the Hermon town line as a possible drunken driving case.

The names of the drivers were not released Monday afternoon because the collision still was under investigation.

Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton said that the 25-year-old woman who was driving the SUV has been tested to determine her blood alcohol level but the test results were not yet available.

Witnesses reported that she was swerving just before hitting the pickup, which was driven by a man, Cotton said.

The collision occurred around 8:30 a.m. Monday just west of 2025 Union St.

Both drivers suffered slight injuries and were taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center, according to Cotton.

Traffic was stopped in both directions for much of the morning commute as officials cleaned up the scene.
