WAYNE, Maine — A local man was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly assaulted his 3-month-old son, police said.

William Lord, 39, is facing charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child, according to state police spokesman Stephen McCausland.

McCausland said the child allegedly was thrown down a flight of stairs at a home on Innes Ridge Road on Sunday night.

During the alleged incident, the boy was in a child safety seat but was not strapped in, McCausland said, and suffered a skull fracture.

Lord, whom McCausland said was intoxicated, reportedly went to bed after the boy’s mother left the house to take the boy to a hospital. He was awakened Monday morning by a public address system used by a state police tactical team.

Lord came outside the house and was arrested. The arrest took place after an older child left for school on a bus just after 7 a.m.

The boy’s mother took him to MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta, and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
