NAPLES, Maine — Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies are seeking a man who allegedly robbed a woman of her purse at the Umbrella Factory grocery store on Saturday.
Detective Lt. Donald Foss said the 41-year-old woman was about to load grocery bags into her vehicle in the store’s parking lot when a man walked by and grabbed her purse.
Foss said the woman grabbed onto the man’s arm in attempt to retain the purse, but the man freed himself by pulling off his sweatshirt and then headed in the direction of Bray’s Brew Pub.
The purse contained identification and credit card, and the woman suffered minor injuries, Foss said.
The man’s ballcap and sweatshirt were reportedly recovered by police.
Later on Saturday, the victim’s bank card was used at a Rite Aid in Bridgton, Foss said.
The suspect is a white male, about 6 feet tall, has a thin build and is 30 years old, Foss said, and he may be driving a full-sized red Chevrolet or GMC regular cab pickup truck. The truck has a wooden ladder rack fixed to the bed, Foss added.
Anyone with information should call the Cumberland County sheriff’s office at 774-1444.
