ORIENT, Maine — A Hodgdon man accused of burning a 4-year-old child with hot water was arrested last week after being indicted on a felony charge of assault.
Shane Godfrin, 25, was arrested on Oct. 16 at a home in Orient, according to Chief Deputy Darrell Crandall of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department.
Crandall said that Godfrin’s indictment by the Aroostook County grand jury on Oct. 9 was kept sealed by the court until shortly before Godfrin could be found and arrested in order to keep him from fleeing. It did not take deputies long to locate Godfrin after the court issued the warrant.
Godfrin was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton and later released after posting $1,000 cash bail.
The child was taken on March 23 to Houlton Regional Hospital with severe burns on the lower legs after the incident, which allegedly occurred in Hodgdon, according to Crandall.
Sheriff’s deputies were notified and opened a criminal investigation. Medical professionals with expertise in identifying the nature and cause of burns also were involved with the investigation, Crandall said.
If convicted, Godfrin faces up to five years in prison.
