Singers workshop BANGOR — Vocal Techniques for Singers workshop will be held 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Nov. 8, at All Souls Congregational Church, 10 Broadway. Presenters Kay Eames and Karen Pendleton will teach choral and solo singers on the use of the singing voice according to the McClosky Method and according to Somatic VoiceworkTM: LoVetri Method, which is a body-based method of vocal training. Attendees will have an opportunity to try easy breathing and relaxation techniques and vocal warm-ups. The event is sponsored by the American Guild of Organists, Bangor Chapter. Suggested donation for non-guild members is $10. Orono Arts Cafe ORONO — The Orono Arts Cafe’s November program will celebrate the armistice that ended World War I and honor the experience of men and women who have served in the armed forces and worked for peace and freedom here and around the world. The event will be held Friday, Nov. 7, at the Keith Anderson Community House, Bennoch Road. Open mic sign-up begins at 6:30 p.m., the show starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $3. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will go toward the Orono Historical Society’s restoration of the Civil War Statue. Both adult and youth performers are welcome, and need not be residents of Orono to participate. All artists are reminded that, whatever genre of music or spoken-word piece they choose to share, they should plan programs that are appropriate for a family audience and that last no more than 10 minutes (two or three short songs or poems). The cafe’s famous root beer floats are free to all who perform on the evening’s program. The OAC is sponsored by the Orono Schools Coalition for the Arts, an organization of parent and community volunteers working to support arts education in schools.
