BANGOR — Darling’s Auto Group, a long-time sponsor of the Komen Maine Race for the Cure in Bangor, presented a check for $31,286.65 on Oct. 15 for money raised for the cause during various fundraisers.

In addition to dress-down days and the employee Race for the Cure team, all Darling’s locations in Bangor, Ellsworth and Augusta participated in a “Pink Plate” promotion in mid-September, where $100 from the purchase of every new and pre-owned vehicle sold during the week preceding this year’s race would benefit the Maine Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure through the Darling’s race team.

“This is the third year that we’ve done this program and it has been our most successful, and we are proud to be a long-term supporter of Komen,” said Lorilei Porter in a press release. She is a member of the Darling’s marketing team who helped coordinate the promotion. “It’s important to our employees to be involved in the community, not just for the company to write a check. We are always participants at the race each year, and this year we were pleased to have our photo booth and ice cream truck on-site to help add to the fun.”

The check for the funds raised from the promotions was presented to representatives of the Maine Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure at Darling’s Honda on the Sylvan Road.

Kim White, a long-time Darling’s employee and breast cancer survivor, served as the 2014 race co-chairwoman.
