New Business
BANGOR — Kathie Smith of Bangor has opened a new business, Lending a Hand, at 2292 Ohio St.
The business offers services to individuals who need assistance remaining in their homes, or to those who are too busy working to do necessary errands.
“Lending a Hand’s team of errand runners are can-do specialists who are reliable, discreet and
can handle any assignment from grocery shopping to house cleaning to setting up for a special
event at your home or business,” Smith said. “People recuperating from health issues at home,
seniors living alone or mothers arriving home with a newborn occasionally need a hand with
daily errands or tasks.”
Bonded staff members are available to monitor homes for those away for a week or
the winter, as well as those that are vacant awaiting sale, said Smith, who has 28 years of experience in human resources field.

Ground Entrepreneur of the Year
BANGOR — FedEx Ground, the small-package ground unit of FedEx Corp., awarded one of its highest honors to Jason Brooks of Brooksy Inc. in Bangor, a small business that provides transportation services for the company. He was named FedEx Ground Entrepreneurs of the Year.
The distinction recognizes the small-business owners for their business growth and development, customer service, safety record, community involvement, and business ethics.
For Jason Brooks, exceptional customer service begins with driver engagement. With 15 employees operating 13 vehicles, he understands the importance of keeping his employees connected.
To establish a sense of camaraderie and encourage teamwork, Jason pairs drivers who are in close proximity to one another.
“When one driver is finished, he calls the others nearby to offer help,” Brooks explained. Always committed to safety, Brooks said he regularly holds safety contests and pop quizzes for his drivers to remind them of the benefits of operating accident-free. He equips all of Brooksy Inc.’s vehicles with devices that monitor speed and driving techniques that alert Brooks to follow-up as needed.
Brooks and his employees contribute to a local park and recreation facility, and currently champion a project to build a fishing wharf for children, where they intend to host an annual fishing derby.
