LINNEUS, Maine — Police arrested a Houlton man Sunday who they say abandoned the SUV he was driving after hitting a mailbox and a utility pole on Burton Road.
Herbert Winship, 38, was arrested on a charge of operating after suspension and on three outstanding arrest warrants and brought to the Aroostook County Jail.
According to a release from Maine State Police, Trooper Jill Monahan found the tan 2004 Pontiac SUV abandoned at the scene of the single-vehicle crash at around 1 p.m. Sunday. Monahan determined Winship was the driver, the release states, and Winship was located at a residence in Houlton later that afternoon.
Monahan was assisted by Houlton police. The incident is under investigation and Winship may face more charges, the release states.
