Vote Stehle

Many people have asked Allen Stehle why he would want to run for Sheriff of Penobscot County. The answer is one reason I am voting for him. Allen Stehle said he decided to run for sheriff because he felt he “had to run.” That answer speaks volumes about the need for change in our county’s highest law enforcement position. Allen has promised transparency as he works to make the Sheriff’s Office the most respected, excellent in Maine. He will make good on his word.

This is a man who grew up in the tough Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn, was orphaned by 14, went to work in a glass factory at 15, and had no plans for college. But a coach applied on his behalf, and when he fanned out 14 offers for full scholarships in front of the boy, Allen picked Syracuse University, where he earned a master’s degree in economic crime management. He is an International Certified Fraud Investigator, a credential earned by only about 20,000 people worldwide. Allen shares the story of how he mortgaged his house twice to buy a failing Beal College and turned it into a successful business, where he has taught some of Penobscot County’s finest law-enforcement officers.

Allen Stehle knows how to turn things around. A self-made success, highest ethics and integrity, law enforcement skills and experience, a plan for excellence. That is what we get with Allen Stehle. He does not need to be sheriff, but we need him.

Re-elect Frey

In his first term in the House of Representatives, Aaron Frey was selected to serve on the busiest and most important committee in state government: Appropriations and Financial Affairs. While holding down a full-time job, Frey spent long hours and many nights and weekends on the Committee listening to testimony, reading the data and studying the issues in depth. Not beholden to special interests, Frey listened to all sides and gave everyone a fair hearing. Often he asked questions that were both probing and informed. He worked with members of both parties to achieve results that were in the best interests of Maine people. No one came away from the committee feeling that they had not been heard by Frey.

He has paid special attention to issues that affect his constituents in the city of Bangor: jobs, property taxes, public safety, early childhood education, conservation, economic development and the Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center. Frey epitomizes the traits that every good legislator should have: humility, hard work and honesty. He deserves support at the polls.

I urge the voters of District 124 to re-elect Frey to the House of Representatives on Nov.4.

Weston stays positive

As a married, working mother of two, choosing the right leaders to represent our community is very important to me and my family. As an unenrolled voter, neither a Democrat nor Republican, I have been inundated with political mailers, door knocking and phone calls this fall. Apparently, I am the targeted demographic of this year’s elections.

Perhaps the volume would be a little easier to digest if it wasn’t so negative and disingenuous. Just because I’m not enrolled doesn’t mean I’m not engaged.

This is why I am so impressed by Cary Weston’s positive campaign. Faced with what seems to be a never-ending stream of dirty mailers, negative radio spots and shady TV ads, he smiles, remains positive and shares why he wants to earn my vote. By the way, if you haven’t seen his latest video, you need to view it and see for yourself at www.WestonforSenate.com.

It’s the ad I’ve been waiting for and it solidified my support for Weston. He has proven he can remain calm, mature and has the integrity necessary to make a difference in Augusta. People are fed up with the mudslinging and crave real leadership. He has the leadership Maine needs now. Join me in voting for Weston.

Vote Eliot

A vote for Eliot Cutler is a vote for Eliot Cutler. A vote for Cutler says, “I want significant change in Augusta.“ He has been forthcoming with an economic plan, inclusive of fiscal responsibility which benefits Maine people. I’ve met Cutler. He’s authentic, honest, down-to-earth, a man with integrity, compassion and leadership qualities.

After several gubernatorial debates, it’s clear that he is the only candidate capable and qualified to lead Maine. Gov. Paul LePage failed. Mike Michaud has been incapable of articulating a fiscal plan, specifically, how he intends to pay for his campaign promises. Asked repeatedly by debate moderators, Michaud consistently spoke in terms of uncertainty and vagueness. Michaud’s ambiguity should be a red flag to Maine voters.

A quote from the Bangor Daily News: “[the] mistake is that the Democratic and Republican parties have failed to develop candidates worthy of statewide races and fit for statewide office.”

Vote Cutler!

Trust Michaud

I served in the Maine Legislature with Mike Michaud. Michaud has been called dishonest by one of the gubernatorial candidates. In my opinion and my experience in serving with Michaud, there isn’t a dishonest bone in his body. We could go to Michaud for a vote, advice, or just talking about a piece of legislation and be assured that his reaction would be measured, thoughtful and considerate even when he would disagree with my opinion on the legislation.

Mike is a quiet kind of person who does not pick fights and attack others on their opinion even when he disagrees. He will always do the right thing for the benefit of all the people of Maine when weighing his position on legislation. He is a man you can trust and will work hard for us. How do I know this? By serving with him for 16 years in the Maine Legislature. Make your vote count. Vote Michaud for the next governor of Maine.

No on Question 1

I’m told that many bears in our Maine woods dream that they will meet a swift, merciful demise while savoring a large pile of delicious jelly doughnuts. What a way to go! Contrast that to the likely alternative (if Question 1 passes) of slowly starving because there are too many bears. Smokey and his friends throughout the state will thank you for voting No on Nov. 4.
