SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Traffic on the busy Maine Mall Road was snarled for much of Tuesday afternoon thanks to a five-car accident in front of the Days Inn, police said.

South Portland police Lt. Tom Simonds said the accident occurred at the intersection of Maine Turnpike Spur around 1:45 p.m.

Although names of the occupants weren’t available Tuesday afternoon, Simonds said no serious injuries occurred.

Three people were transported to hospitals with injuries not considered to be life-threatening, Simonds said.

Traffic in the area of the accident was reduced to one lane while the scene was cleaned up, Simonds said. As of 3:30 p.m., traffic was back to normal.
