TOPSHAM, Maine — Police continue to investigate the cause of a two-vehicle head-on crash Monday night on Route 201 that sent two drivers to area hospitals.

The crash, which occurred near American Way, was reported at approximately 6 p.m. Responding emergency personnel blocked the road and detoured traffic at Meadow Road and West Schoolhouse Crossing Road.

According to Topsham police Sgt. Robert Ramsay, two vehicles collided. The vehicles that crashed are a silver Volkswagen Jetta driven by Steven Blanc, 40, of Bowdoin and a Saturn Vue driven by Suzanne Clark, 50, of Brunswick.

Both drivers were conscious and alert at the scene. Clark was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and Blanc was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

A Brunswick crash reconstruction team responded to the scene and police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

Topsham Fire and Rescue responded, and Bowdoin Fire Department responded with a rescue vehicle to provide additional lighting. The road reopened at around 8:30 p.m., and police and fire personnel cleared the scene a short time after.
