SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A suspect has been arrested in connection with Wednesday’s robbery at the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Madison Avenue, Skowhegan police Chief Edward Blais said.

The suspect’s name was not immediately released early Wednesday evening because he had yet to be charged, Blais said.

According to Blais, the robbery happened shortly after 3 p.m., when a white male entered the drugstore and handed a note to pharmacy staff demanding prescription painkillers. The suspect threatened to use force if his demand was not met, the chief said, adding the suspect was given some drugs before leaving the store.

The suspect was described as being between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet tall, thin in build and dressed in a dark-colored jacket and a gray hat, Blais said. He was identified from surveillance video footage, Blais said.

Skowhegan police were assisted by members of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Blais said.

Blais asked anyone with information about the robbery to call the Skowhegan Police Department through the Somerset County Communication Center at 474-6386.
