PORTLAND, Maine — A transient who reportedly bolted from state troopers while handcuffed on Wednesday night in Kennebec County was captured Thursday in Portland.
Jason Langdon, 34, was taken into custody by Portland police late Thursday night, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Friday.
Langdon had hitched a ride to Portland on Thursday from an unsuspecting motorist, still with the handcuffs on although the chain had been cut, McCausland said.
“The motorist who gave him a ride did not notice the handcuffs until he dropped Langdon off at a homeless shelter,” said McCausland.
On Wednesday, Langdon’s vehicle had been pulled over on Route 9 in Chelsea by Maine State Police and he was arrested after giving troopers a fake name. The handcuffed Langdon fled after being placed in a squad car.
After dropping Langdon off, the motorist called police and Langdon was arrested. He was taken to the Kennebec County Jail.
