LAKE PLACID, New York — Julia Clukey of Augusta, a member of the 2010 U.S. Olympic luge team, will compete this weekend in the 2014 Norton National Championships in advance of the World Cup season that begins in Europe later this month.

The three-races-in-two-days format for singles competition will feature a pair of two-heat seeding events on Saturday and Sunday, with the total from those four runs determining the national champions in the men’s and women’s divisions.

USA Luge will finalize its World Cup team at the conclusion of the weekend series but Clukey, reigning Olympic women’s bronze medalist Erin Hamlin of Remsen, New York, and two-time U.S. men’s Olympian Chris Mazdzer Saranac Lake, New York, are exempt from qualifying for the fall World Cup team.

Races begin at 8 a.m. daily and will be streamed live on www.usaluge.org, courtesy of West World Media.
