BANGOR, Maine — Taylor Lovley recorded two goals and two assists to help Husson University roll by Castleton State 10-1 in in a North Atlantic Conference field hockey semifinal Saturday night at the Winkin Complex.
Husson (8-8) will host the NAC final this Saturday against the winner of Tuesday’s UMaine-Farmington at Thomas semifinal.
Lovley scored both of her goals in the first half when Taylor Shaw, Elizabeth Terry and Sarah Eastman also converted as the Eagles surged to a 5-0 halftime lead.
Melissa Souza added two second-half goals for Husson while Kerianne Downing, Lauren Russell and Olivia Plaisted also scored.
Kaitlin Dolloff made one save for Husson and Jess Galatioto made 14 for Castleton (2-15).
Cross Country
UNH, Binghamton win AE titles
At Orono on Saturday, the University of New Hampshire women and the men from Binghamton University won America East championships at the University of Maine.
Elinor Purrier won the individual title in leading UNH to the title with a time of 17 minutes, 19.42 seconds over the 5 kilometers. The Wildcats scored 26 points while Stony Brook (63), Vermont (101), Maryland Baltimore County (122) and Albany (125) rounded out the top five teams.
UMaine finished ninth with 225 points.
Christina Melian of Stony Brook and Silvia DelFava finished second and third, respectively, with times of 17:21.77 and 17:30.37.
Annabelle Wilson was the top UMaine finisher in 31st place with a time of 19:07.81.
In the men’s race, Binghamton placed runners in the Nos. 8-11 spots to take home the crown with 59 points, edging UMass Lowell (62).
UMBC (85 points), New Hampshire (114) and Stony Brook (115) claimed the Nos. 3-5 spots in the team scoring. UMaine wound up seventh with 142 points.
Eric Speakman of Stony Brook was the individual winner in 24:41.23 over 8K. John Prizzi of UNH (24:42.32) and Robert Allen of UMass Lowell (24:42.33) took second and third, respectively.
Matt Johnson was Binghamton’s top performer in eighth place (25:19.14).
Levi Frye ran the course in 25:34.14 and was UMaine’s leading finisher in 13th place overall.
Women’s Soccer
NEC 2, UMF 1
At Farmington, Rachel Thomas scored with 13 seconds left in overtime to lift New England College by UMaine-Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal Sunday.
Thomas trapped a throw-in pass, turned around, and fired a line drive past a diving Sam Hatch.
UMF’s Bridget Humphrey scored the first goal in the 20th when she headed in a pass from Sarah Pokorny, but NEC equalized on Caroline Mols’ goal with 8:16 left in regulation.
Hatch finished with eight saves for UMF and Tricia Sardagnola had four for NEC.
