BANGOR, Maine — A single-family home at 15 Forest Ave. was damaged by fire early Monday morning, officials said.
Crews were dispatched to the residence shortly after 5 a.m., Bangor Assistant Fire Chief Anthony Riitano said as crews were finishing work at the scene.
The lone homeowner was out safely when firefighters arrived, Riitano said. The fire was contained to the first floor and the basement area.
While the exterior of the home didn’t suffer significant damage, Riitano said the interior is “pretty good damaged,” and crews “had to do a lot of digging and tearing” to get to the flames, he added.
Firefighters from Bangor and Brewer managed to get the fire under control in about a half-hour, Riitano said. Hermon firefighters covered Bangor’s station.
Riitano doesn’t believe the home had any working smoke detectors. The fire remains under investigation.
