HENNIKER, New Hampshire — Stephen Berenyi scored two goals to lead the Husson University men’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over New England College in a North Atlantic Conference semifinal Tuesday.
Husson will host Thomas College on Saturday in Bangor in the NAC final, with the winner gaining an NCAA Tourney berth.
Berenyi scored his first goal in the 26th minute with an assist from Phil Frost, who gave a perfect ball to Berenyi and he buried it.
Manny Arteaga knotted the game at one in the 49th minute on a penalty kick for NEC before Berenyi notched the game-winner in the 82nd minute as he took a corner kick that deflected off the goalie and in.
Brian Potter made five saves for Husson (12-7) and Mark Nowak made four for NEC (11-6-1).
UMF 2, Thomas 1
At Waterville, Emmah Spahr scored off her own rebound in the 32nd minute to give UMaine-Farmington the winning edge in the North Atlantic Conference semifinal.
Thomas’ Brittany Premo scored the game’s first goal, but UMF equalized when Meghan Hughes scored off a Chelsea Morley pass.
Patty Smith finished with seven saves for UMF (8-6, 3-2 NAC) while Abbie Charrier blocked three shots for the Terriers (7-10, 4-1).
USM 4, Plymouth St. 1
At Plymouth, New Hampshire, sophomore Jennifer Poulin scored two goals and assisted on a third while classmate Amanda Kasbohm made 12 saves to lead the seventh-seeded University of Southern Maine Huskies to the upset win over the second-seeded Plymouth State University Panthers in Little East Conference Tournament quarterfinal action.
