The picture is a little clearer concerning the Eastern Maine championship soccer games but the weekend snowstorm still has left some uncertainty.
Grass fields at the homes of the higher seeds are not playable at six of the eight sites so athletic directors have sought artificial turf fields near their schools for games originally scheduled for Wednesday.
The Orono and Central of Corinth EM Class C boys final has been tentatively moved from Wednesday to 4 p.m. Thursday but the site has yet to be determined.
The game will be held at Husson University’s Boucher Field in Bangor or at the Hampden Academy field, depending upon which artificial surface is playable, according to Orono athletic director Mike Archer.
If the game is at Husson, then the game time could be in the 4-6 p.m. range, depending on when the Husson teams practice that day.
The Ellsworth-Oceanside Class B boys final has been moved to Maine Maritime Academy in Castine and will be played at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The Hermon-Waterville girls “B” championship game has been moved to Thomas College in Waterville at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Bangor Christian will entertain Ashland in the Class D boys final at Husson at 1 p.m. Thursday. That’s tentative, also, depending on Husson field conditions.
The Class D and B girls games previously had been switched to the Gehrig T. Johnson Complex in Presque Isle with Ashland and Penobscot Valley of Howland meeting in the “D” title game at 3 p.m. and the Houlton and Fort Kent girls squaring off at 5 p.m. in the Class C game.
The two Class A finals have not been affected by the snowstorm.
Edward Little of Auburn will host Mt. Ararat of Topsham at 1:30 p.m. in the girls game and Lewiston will entertain Brunswick at 5 p.m. in the boys final.
The boys finals between top seed Ellsworth, 15-0-1, and No. 10 Oceanside of Rockland/Thomaston, 11-4-2, and No. 1 Bangor Christian, 15-1, and No. 3 Ashland, 13-2-2, involve teams that did not play each other during the regular season.
No. 1 Lewiston, 15-0-1, and No. 2 Brunswick, 12-2-2, played to a 2-2 tie on Oct. 2 and No. 3 Orono (13-2) beat No. 5 Central (13-3) 3-2 and 6-2 in their two meetings.
In the girls games, No. 2 Edward Little (12-1-3) and No. 5 Mt. Ararat (10-4-2) battled to a 2-2 tie and No. 1 Houlton (14-0-2) posted a 2-1 win and a 0-0 tie against No. 3 Fort Kent (9-4-3). The games between No. 1 Waterville (16-0) and No. 3 Hermon (15-1) along with No. 1 Ashland (16-0) and No. 2 Penobscot Valley (16-0) feature teams that did not meet.
The state finals are set for Wednesday with the Class A and D games at Hampden Academy and the Class B and C games at Deering High School in Portland.
