BANGOR, Maine — An argument between two women in a parking lot of a Hammond Street motel led to one of them going to jail, police said.
Shortly after midnight Wednesday, Bangor police responded to a report of a fight between two women in the parking lot of the Motel 6, according to Sgt. Tim Cotton.
The argument resulted in one woman, Diane Desiata, 54, of Connecticut, getting into a black Jeep and striking the victim three times before running the other woman over with the Jeep’s front wheel, Cotton said.
A witness prevented the situation from being worse by jumping in front of the vehicle, preventing it from completely running over the other woman, Cotton said. Shortly after, Desiata apparently placed the victim in the Jeep and left the area.
On Wednesday afternoon, Desiata was located in Topsham and arrested and brought to Penobscot County Jail, where she was charged with assault, the sergeant said. The victim has returned home to Connecticut and is in good condition.
The witness, Troy McClure of Corinth, was presented a Bangor Police Department Challenge Coin for his role in the incident, Cotton said.
Cotton said McClure placed his hands on the hood of the Jeep that Desiata was driving and yelled for her to stop, to which she replied she was intending to run the victim over.
Desiata did stop and excited the vehicle to view the victim beneath the tire, at which time she backed off, allowing the victim time to get out of the way.
