SOUTH HADLEY, Massachusetts — Sara LaQuerre and Anna Hartman scored less than five minutes apart in the first half, leading 16th-ranked Mount Holyoke College to a 2-0 victory over Husson University of Bangor in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Field Hockey Championship on Wednesday afternoon.

Mount Holyoke, the runner-up in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference, advances to face No. 2 Bowdoin on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Brunswick.

The North Atlantic Conference champion Eagles close out their season at 9-9.

Mount Holyoke outshot Husson 16-8 and held a 10-7 edge in penalty corners. Liz Dicesare made four saves to backstop the win.

Kaitlin Dolloff finished with six saves and the team was credited with one for the Eagles.

Mount Holyoke broke a scoreless tie at the 22:16 mark of the first half when LaQuerre scored off an assist from Kirsten Kilburn off a penalty corner. Hartman added an important goal at 27:09 when Charlotte Wagner set up the tally.

The contest marked only the third time Husson had been shut out this season.
