AUGUSTA, Maine — At least 60 headstones were found damaged in a city cemetery on Wednesday morning, and police are investigating.
The damaged stones at Riverside Cemetery were discovered around 10:30 a.m. by the city’s parks and recreation director, Augusta police Lt. Kevin Lully said.
“Obviously somebody had a lot of time in there to do that,” Lully said.
While police do not have a suspect description, officers suspect multiple vandals were involved, Lully said. The headstones were all knocked over.
Anyone with information on the case should call Augusta police at 626-2370, ext. 3418.
