WOOLWICH, Maine — Fire crews from Woolwich and Bath were fighting a house fire Friday afternoon at 259 George Wright Road.

The blaze was reported about 12:30 p.m. No one was home when the fire broke out, according to firefighters.

The house was in flames when firefighters went inside the home. At 2 p.m., crews continued to work to get the blaze fully under control.

The home is owned by Aaron Jones, who lives at the George Wright Road property with his daughter, Stephanie. He lost his cat in the fire. Firefighters were able to retrieve his Bible.

Jones said he didn’t have homeowner’s insurance. His furnace broke seven years ago, so he’s been heating with a wood stove.

Jones is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause and origin of the fire are still unknown.
