WINSLOW, Maine — Bobby Chenard threw for three touchdowns on Saturday afternoon to spearhead Winslow High School to a 29-12 victory over archrival Waterville to win the Eastern Maine Class C football championship.

It was the third consecutive regional title for coach Mike Siviski’s Black Raiders (10-0), who take on defending state champion Leavitt of Turner Center (10-1) in Friday’s 7 p.m. final at the University of Maine’s Alfond Stadium in Orono.

Saturday’s win over the Purple Panthers (8-2) was the second of the season for Winslow, which ran the ball effectively but mixed in some well-timed pass plays to get the ball in the end zone.

The Black Raiders broke a scoreless deadlock with a long drive in the second quarter. It culminated in a 12-yard scoring toss from Chenard to Justin Martin and Dylan Hapworth’s PAT rush gave Winslow an 8-0 lead.

The hosts scored again early in the second half when Chenard found Jacob Trask for a 30-yard scoring pass, but Waterville answered late in the period on A.J. Godin’s 1-yard TD run.

However, the Black Raiders re-established a two-score cushion on Chenard’s 30-yard TD completion to Trask.

The Purple Panthers kept it close on Godin’s 18-yard touchdown throw to Cam Thomas, but a 14-yard scoring scamper by Kenny Rickard put the game away for Winslow.
