WINTERPORT, Maine — A driver has been issued a summons for leaving the scene of an accident after allegedly hitting and injuring a Winterport jogger.

Rachel Curtis-Doliber, 28, of Winterport was summoned for the Class D offense on Saturday, Nov. 15. She was identified after the injured jogger provided information to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. The misdemeanor offense is punishable by up to one year in prison and $2,000 in fines.

“The driver of the suspect vehicle slowed but did not stop after striking the [jogger],” Lt. Jason Trundy wrote in a media release issued Monday. “The incident resulted in the [jogger] sustaining abrasions and a fractured ankle.”

The 27-year-old jogger, who was hit by the car at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, on Boston Road, said she is in a lot of pain right now.

“I’m missing time from work. I can’t take care of myself and my son. It’s been difficult. It was scary,” the jogger, who did not want to give her name to the BDN, said. “I’m just thankful that I’m alive, and that it wasn’t worse.”

The jogger said she often jogs while pushing her son in a stroller, and that she is grateful he wasn’t with her that day. She said she thought the driver of the car would stop to see if she was OK.

“Because who wouldn’t?” the woman asked.

A neighbor on the road did come to help her, and stayed with her until medical assistance arrived.

“I think the biggest thing out of this is just how fast life happens — how fast it can change,” the jogger said.
