BETHEL, Maine — A New Hampshire died from extensive head injuries Sunday afternoon after his ATV rolled over in Bethel, and police say he was not wearing a helmet.

The name of the 42-year-old man has not been released, but the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department said the accident happened just after 2 p.m. in the area of 745 North Road in Bethel.

A passerby found the man and notified police. The ATV rolled over near the entrance to a trail, police said. The victim was taken to Rumford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation into the accident continues but no cause has been determined.

The man was the only person riding on the ATV, and no other vehicles were involved in the accident, according to authorities.
