EDGECOMB, Maine — A Wiscasset man has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly grabbing a woman by the throat and punching her in the face on Nov. 6.

Michael B. Burns, 31, was arrested by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Jared Mitkus after Mitkus and Deputy Justin Drake responded to a report of a domestic dispute on Wawenock Road in Edgecomb.

During an investigation, the alleged victim said she and Burns were arguing before he called her a name and allegedly grabbed her throat and punched her in the face, Mitkus said in an affidavit.

The woman said she lost her breath during the incident but did not lose consciousness, and that it was not the first time Burns had allegedly “thumped” her, according to the affidavit.

Mitkus observed the woman’s left eye was bleeding and saw marks on her neck, as well as dried blood on a knuckle of Burns’ right hand, according to the affidavit.

Burns said the woman fell into the stove, Mitkus said.

Burns remained at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on Monday, held on $5,000 cash bail. A court date was not available.
