MONHEGAN ISLAND, Maine — Monhegan Island firefighters were able to extinguish a blaze near a chimney Tuesday afternoon, and canceled a call for the U.S. Coast Guard to take the Bristol Fire Department to the island for mutual aid.
At 3:30 p.m., a firefighter at the Boothbay Harbor Coast Guard station said cutters were being launched to deliver firefighters to the island.
But by 3:45 p.m., the call for Bristol fire crews had been canceled, according to Jeri Pendleton at Bristol’s New Harbor substation.
