TOPSHAM, Maine — Firefighters were able to save a house at 5 Green St. on Tuesday morning after a stove fire extended to the second floor.
Lt. Justin Emmons of the Topsham Fire Department said flames were showing from the side of the house when firefighters arrived at the home just before 11 a.m.
A hood vent on the stove sent flames out the side of the building, according Emmons. The fire, which extended to the second floor, was knocked down within 10 or 15 minutes.
The late 1800s-era house is owned by Ian Talmage and Jennifer Banis, according to tax records. Emmons said an upstairs apartment was rented out and a catering business was operated from the first floor. The caterer, her children and a dog escaped the house safely.
The name of the catering company was not immediately available, but 111 Maine Wedding & Event Catering lists 5 Green St. as its address on its website.
Emmons said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters from Topsham, Brunswick and West Bath responded.
