LIMINGTON — A Limington man faces charges he hit a teen on the side of the road Friday, breaking both her legs, then drove away.
Christopher Stevens, 57, turned himself in to the York County Sheriff’s Department after seeing media coverage Friday night of the accident. He told police that before he saw the news reports, he thought he had hit a deer.
The crash happened near the intersection of Route 11 and River Road at around 5:30 p.m. Chelsey Jackson, 16, of Limington suffered two broken legs and damage to her left elbow and collarbone. She was scheduled to be operated on Sunday morning at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Stevens’ 2009 GMC pickup truck, which was missing the passenger side mirror and showed damage to the right front side, was seized by police as evidence.
Stevens was taken to the York County Jail on charges he left the scene of a personal injury vehicle crash and failed to report a motor vehicle crash by quickest means. Bail was set at $250 for each charge.
