PORTLAND — Portland Police are investigating an apparent homicide that happened Friday night at an apartment building at 214 Brighton Ave, leaving one man dead.

Responding officers arrived at the residence a little after 9 p.m., finding the victim but not a suspect. Assistant Police Chief Vern Malloch said in a press release issued later Friday night that the incident remains under investigation and the perpetrator is not believed to be in the area.

Gregg Lagerquist, an anchor with BDN media partner WGME-CBS 13, posted on Twitter Friday night that police closed part of Brighton Avenue and were looking for a black Chevy Impala and that the suspect in the incident was still at large.

Multiple media outlets have called the incident a shooting.

Police have yet to identify the victim or release a description of the suspect. They’re asking anyone who might have information about the situation to call police at 874-8575 or text anonymously to 274637 with the keyword “Gotcha.”
