BERWICK, Maine — Police on Friday identified the man killed in a Wednesday afternoon crash on Route 9 as Norman Erickson, 90, of Rochester, New Hampshire.
Erickson was traveling south at about 12:49 p.m. Wednesday, when he apparently lost control of his 2002 Nissan because of slippery road conditions and slid sideways, directly into the path of a northbound 2006 white box van driven by 40-year-old Kevin Learned of South Gardiner, Detective Ron Lund said Friday.
The Nissan struck the front end of the van. Erickson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Learned was not injured.
A portion of Route 9 was closed for about 2½ hours while Berwick police Sgt. Jeffrey Pilkington reconstructed the crash, according to Lund.
