WELLS, Maine — An escapee from a Pennsylvania correctional facility was arrested on the Maine Turnpike early Monday morning, state police said.
The vehicle Derek Lee Black, 34, was riding in, was driven by a Bangor woman, 26-year old Mindy Baxter, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Black had been missing from an Erie, Pennsylvania, correctional facility since March, according to McCausland.
Baxter’s car had been pulled over for expired registration tags, and when police questioned Black, he gave a trooper a false name, McCausland said.
Baxter also told the trooper she did not know Black’s full name.
Police arrested Black on a charge of failing to give a correct name. A fingerprint check at the York County Jail confirmed his identity.
Black had been jailed in Pennsylvania on drug charges, and arrangements are being made to return him there to face charges of escape.
Baxter was summoned for operating a vehicle with a restricted license.
