WINTERPORT, Maine — A local man needed to be extricated from his truck Tuesday morning and taken to the hospital after his vehicle struck a tree.

Colby Gardner, 35, of Winterport was driving on Marsh Stream Road at about 9:15 a.m., when he went through an intersection and drove off the road, hitting a tree with his 2011 Chevy 2500 truck, according to a media release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident was reported to police by a caller, who found the wrecked truck with Gardner unable to get out, Lt. Jason Trundy said in the release. Members of the Winterport fire and ambulance crews responded to the scene and were able to get Gardner out of his vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Trundy said.

Police are still investigating the accident, he said, adding that more details about contributing factors will be forthcoming.
