SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Local police report that a 55-year-old woman died in an officer-involved shooting in South Berwick.

Around 11:59 a.m. on Thursday morning, York police responded to a call from a local medical facility that there was a female subject threatening to commit suicide at her home in York.

Berwick police were first to arrive on scene. After a short time, the woman exited her home, got in her vehicle and began driving down Ogunquit Road in South Berwick.

Police were able to stop the woman’s vehicle using spike mats.

According to police, the woman exited her vehicle with a handgun, pointed it at the officer and began walking towards him. At the same time, York police arrived on scene.

Multiple shots were fired.

The woman was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The Maine Attorney General’s office is currently investigating the incident.
