SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — Police on Friday released the name of an officer involved in a deadly shooting on Thursday.
South Berwick Police Chief Dana Lajoie confirmed in a statement that Lt. Christopher Burbank, a 22-year veteran of the force, was the officer involved in Thursday’s shooting.
The name of the 55-year-old deceased woman has not been released. York police had received a call from a medical facility on Thursday after it was reported the woman was threatening suicide at her home.
Shortly after Berwick police arrived at the woman’s residence, she got into her vehicle and headed down Ogunquit Road in South Berwick, where the vehicle was stopped with spike mats.
The woman exited her vehicle armed with a handgun and pointed it toward police, resulting in multiple shots being fired. She was declared dead at a local hospital.
“We are working closely with the York Police Department and the Attorney General’s office on this active investigation,” Lajoie said in the statement.
Lajoie referred all other inquiries on the case, which remains under investigation, to the Attorney General’s office.
