SWANVILLE, Maine — A horse perished Thursday afternoon after being struck by a pickup truck on the North Searsport Road in Swanville.
The horse was from a local residence, according to Deputy Darrin Moody of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. The person taking care of the horse had evidently allowed her 14-year-old daughter to walk the animal on the side of the North Searsport Road, Moody said in a press release issued Friday.
“The horse broke free from the young lady and entered the travel portion of the road, where it was struck and killed,” he said in the release.
Wayne Ely, 49, of Searsport had been driving south in his 1999 Ford F250 when he struck the horse. Police said Ely was not injured in the incident, but his truck had about $2,500 in damage.
