MINOT, Maine — A local teenager who recently moved to town died Sunday morning after he lost control of his vehicle on an icy curve on Center Minot Hill Road and slammed into an oncoming car, police say.
Marcus Bennett, 19, who recently moved to Lewiston from Norway, was driving east in a 1993 Saab at about 9:45 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle on a curve, and slid into the path of Donna Wallace, 51, of Minot who was driving a 2006 Honda Pilot, according to a news release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
The collision mangled both vehicles.
“Bennett was transported to Central Maine Medical Center and died shortly after arrival,” McCausland said. “Wallace and a passenger were also transported with minor injuries.”
Minot Hill was icy at the time of the crash and was closed for about two hours as investigators reconstructed the fatal accident. Trooper Dan Hanson said the preliminary investigation shows that speed and road conditions were factors in the deadly collision, McCausland said.
Minot Fire & Rescue and United Ambulance Service responded to the scene and assisted state police.
